Conclusions: Vaxtracker is an effective tool for monitoring AEFIs in the 55 to 61 years age group. Participant response rates were high for both surveys, in both treatment arms and for each method of sending the survey. This study indicates that administration of 23vPPV was well-tolerated in this cohort. Vaxtracker has successfully demonstrated its application in the monitoring of adverse events in near-real time following vaccination in people participating in a national clinical trial.]]> Wed 26 Oct 2022 10:52:36 AEDT ]]> Serum L-arginine and endogenous methylarginine concentrations predict irritable bowel syndrome in adults: A nested case-control study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47086 0.05). Similar results were found for IBS subtypes. Higher serum L-arginine concentration had the strongest association with IBS diagnosis, with an odds ratio of 9.03 for those with serum L-arginine at the 75th (84 μmol/L) versus 25th (46 μmol/L) percentile (95% CI: 5.99–13.62). L-arginine had the best discriminative ability with a bias-adjusted area under the receiver operator characteristic curve of 0.859. Conclusions: Higher serum concentrations of L-arginine and endogenous methylarginines are strongly associated with IBS in adults.]]> Wed 14 Dec 2022 09:23:38 AEDT ]]> Serum methylarginines and spirometry-measured lung function in older adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:14963 Wed 11 Apr 2018 17:03:18 AEST ]]> Is serum zinc level associated with prediabetes and diabetes?: A cross-sectional study from Bangladesh https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:15057 Wed 11 Apr 2018 16:51:17 AEST ]]> Association between type 2 diabetes and chronic arsenic exposure in drinking water: a cross sectional study in Bangladesh https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20351 Wed 11 Apr 2018 12:14:21 AEST ]]> Availability of arsenic in human milk in women and its correlation with arsenic in urine of breastfed children living in arsenic contaminated areas in Bangladesh https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:16780 Wed 11 Apr 2018 09:14:25 AEST ]]> Zinc supplementation for improving glucose handling in pre-diabetes: a double blind randomized placebo controlled pilot study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30265 p < 0.001) as well as compared to their own baseline (5.37 ± 0.20 mmol/L vs 5.8 ± 0.09, p < 0.001). Beta cell function, insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance all showed a statistically significant improvement as well. Conclusion: To our knowledge this is the first trial to show an improvement in glucose handling using HOMA parameters in participants with prediabetes. Internationally and nationally, considerable efforts are being made to promote active ageing. However, Australia lacks the kind of comprehensive longitudinal research underway in Europe and North America. Although Australia does have a number of longitudinal studies designed to address various issues of health and ageing among older adults, only a few of these studies include a broad and comprehensive range of physical and biological measures. The Hunter Community Study (HCS) is a collaborative study between the University of Newcastle’s School of Medicine and Public Health and the Hunter New England Area Health Service. It is a multi disciplinary initiative that was established to fill some existing gaps in ageing research in Australia and is unique in that it has collected detailed information across all six key policy themes as identified in the Framework for an Australian Ageing Research Agenda.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:35:25 AEDT ]]> The risk of coronary thrombosis with cyclo-oxygenase-2 inhibitors does not vary with polymorphisms in two regions of the cyclo-oxygenase-2 gene https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:13913 C) and rs5275 (T > C) polymorphisms was performed by real-time polymerase chain reaction using allele-specific probes. Results: Ingestion of any NSAID in the week prior to interview was associated with an elevated risk for ACS: adjusted odds ratio 1.8 (1.2, 2.5). The rs 20417 and rs 5275 polymorphisms were not singly associated with risk for ACS: adjusted odds ratios 1.1 (0.80, 1.5) and 1.2 (0.88, 1.5), respectively. Individually, the polymorphisms did not modify the risk of ACS with the drugs. When analyses were conducted by haplotype, the adjusted odds ratio with celecoxib or rofecoxib in individuals who had one or two copies of the ‘low risk’ haplotype (no GT) was 1.2 (0.29, 5.0), compared with 2.1 (1.1, 4.0) with the ‘high risk’ haplotype (one or two copies of GT). Conclusions: We found little evidence of a gene/drug interaction. We found a statistically non-significant trend toward a lower risk of coronary events with NSAIDs in the presence of the ‘low risk’ haplotype. Even if confirmed, the clinical utility of the finding would be limited as this haplotype is carried by a minority of the population.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:25:27 AEDT ]]> Genetic determinants of heel bone properties: genome-wide association meta-analysis and replication in the GEFOS/GENOMOS consortium https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20501 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:59:03 AEDT ]]> Prevalence of and associations with excessive daytime sleepiness in an Australian older population https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20897 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:57:52 AEDT ]]> Memory impairment is associated with serum methylarginines in older adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17876 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:56:43 AEDT ]]> Genome-wide association study identifies two novel genomic regions in irritable bowel syndrome https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20622 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:55:47 AEDT ]]> Predictors of suicidal ideation in older people: a decision tree analysis https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19175 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:52:17 AEDT ]]> Serum methylarginines and incident depression in a cohort of older adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19394 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:52:05 AEDT ]]> Health and ageing data from the Hunter Community Study, NSW, Australia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:8539 Mon 23 Sep 2019 11:55:24 AEST ]]> Identifying low value pathology test ordering in hospitalised patients: a retrospective cohort study across two hospitals https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41884 Mon 15 Aug 2022 15:25:08 AEST ]]> Using Genetics to Inform Interventions Related to Sodium and Potassium in Hypertension https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55070 Mon 08 Apr 2024 13:27:57 AEST ]]> Genetic association and causal inference converge on hyperglycaemia as a modifiable factor to improve lung function https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47250 Fri 16 Dec 2022 12:29:24 AEDT ]]> Validity of three risk prediction models for dementia or cognitive impairment in Australia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:52975 Fri 03 Nov 2023 15:30:53 AEDT ]]>
